An exciting opportunity to take a new challenge in your career by working as Head of Governance, Compliance and Risk for a professional body/charity. Reporting to the Executive Director of Resources, the role will see you head and develop the central Governance and Secretariat services for the organisation’s Board, Council and key committees, provide advice on governance and processes and manage a variety of relationships with senior external stakeholders. Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the group’s governing documents and advise on their application, taking legal advice when applicable
  • Ensure efficient governance processes are in place to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements including Charity Commission requirements
  • Observe external developments in governance, identifying implications for the organisation and reviewing and proposing improvements to its documents and processes in line with best practice
  • Oversee the development of the organisation’s governance policies, standards and processes in line with governance requirements
  • Head and manage the central secretariat functions across the organisation ensuring the Board of Trustees, Council, sub committees and subsidiaries are able to dismiss their responsibilities
  • Make sure that effective processes are in place for succession planning including the appointment, induction, training and review of Trustee Board members and members of Council
  • Lead on arrangements for, and providing full lead support to, the AGM of the organisation’s Fellows and Members

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience of leading governance and secretariat services across an organisation working with senior leaders
  • Previous experience of managing risk
  • Proven experience of leading a team
